USA's Smartphone User Base Surpassed 140 Million in May

Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 39 percent market share in the USA during the three months to the end of May. However, Google Android led as the top smartphone platform with 52 percent market share, according to comScore.

comScore says that 141 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (59 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in May, up 6 percent since February.

Apple ranked as the top OEM with 39.2 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 0.3 percentage points from February). Samsung ranked second with 23 percent market share (up 1.7 percentage points), followed by HTC with 8.7 percent, Motorola with 7.8 percent and LG with 6.7 percent.

Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in May with 52.4 percent market share (up 0.7 percentage points from February). Apple ranked second with 39.2 percent market share (up 0.3 percentage points), followed by BlackBerry with 4.8 percent, Microsoft with 3 percent and Symbian with 0.4 percent.
