Huawei has shown off what it says is the world’s slimmest smartphone — a 1.5Ghz quad-core Android device that is 6.18mm thick.
The new smartphone, the Ascend P6 also comes with a 4.7-inch display screen that has been optimised so that the touchscreen works when users are wearing gloves. It also comes with an unusually highly spec’d 5-megapixel front facing camera to go with the more conventional 8-megapixel main camera.
“The Huawei Ascend P6 is a star among smartphones with its industry-leading design, high-quality camera, and intuitive user interface, Huawei’s proprietary Emotion UI,” said Richard Yu, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Consumer Business Group.
Huawei said that its Automated Discontinuous Reception (ADRX) and Quick Power Control (QPC) battery optimization and power saving technology improves performance by more than 30%, compared with smartphone batteries of equal size.
The Ascend P6 will begin shipping to China from June and to Western Europe from July. Pricing and detail specifications were not included in the announcement.
