Bangladesh Mandates Mobile Number Portability by Jan 2014

Bangladesh’s telecoms regulator, the BTRC has outlined plans to introduce mobile number portability into the country.

In a statement, the regulator said that MNP will come into effect at the end of this year.

The mobile networks are now being required to set up a conventional MNP clearing house, and the regulator says that it will require that one of its staff are represented on the board of the clearing house company they set up.

The cost to consumers of porting their number will be limited to no more than BDT50, and the customer wont be required to seek a replacement SIM Card (which would have been taxed).
